Math 292: Problem Solving Seminar
The problem solving seminar is a course that is designed to sharpen the student&srquo;s ability to solve mathematical problems. One of the goals is to prepare students for the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition.
Although there are some common strategies that can be applied in general, the best way to sharpen the student&srquo;s ability to solve mathematical problems is by solving problems. Students are encouraged to participate in the Dordt College mathematics department problem of the week (found here) and the Purdue Mathematics department problem of the week (found here).
As the semester progresses weekly problem sets will be posted. These should be attempted prior to coming to class. Some problems are hard others are easy, in all cases students should bring to class their reflections on how they approached the problem(s). If you are able to solve a problem bring the solution and show the class!
